Oh, that's why your voice is so weird!

FINALLY REUNITED WITH MARIKE AND LOLA (28/06)

In good dramatic Horne fashion I finally made it to Marike and Lola in the wee hours of the 28th. In the morning we set off bright and early for a spot of whale watching despite it only just being the beginning of the season. With all our luck so far of course we also managed to see the first whales of the season much to the delight of our tour guide (see pics!), a truly amazing experience!

In the evening we decided to stay in Knysna as the hostel (Homebase) we were staying at was fantastic! Rocío and Riaan (a Spanish and South African couple, the managers of Homebase) joined us for drinks in the evening and we headed into town for the evening with two other hostel guests from Switzerland, Yoann and Tsenny.

The night was great until the last few moments where a few girls made it pretty clear that we'd out-stayed our welcome. They politely asked us a few times to leave their men alone (one of the Swiss boys was mixed raced and we think they confused him for a local) but their politeness escalated to vicious comments and hair pulling quicker than we expected. Needless to say we left quickly! My first person experience with racism, quite the eye opener! Despite the scuffle a great evening was had.

WEIRD ACCENTS (29/06)

With slight (extreme) headaches we set off for Montagu under recommendation of Rocío and Riaan. The scenery was fantastic along the route 62 and we had lunch between the mountains (again, see pics!). Upon arrival at Montagu we settled into the sneaky tucked away recommended room and headed off to the hot springs. Under the stars and hot spring water with a cocktail in hand we watched the Netherlands bring us to victory! Not a typically "African" evening but beautiful non the less.

It was at these springs that we met young, Afrikaans Lita who asked me if I was Canadian. When I told him I was actually British you could see the penny drop and he loudly exclaimed 'ahhhh, that's why your voice is so weird!'. Innocent comment with no underlying meaning but yet another moment which really sparked my own train of thought.

MONDAY 30TH - WINE ROUTE

Up bright and early and headed along the wine route. Again spoilt by gorgeous scenery, literally breathtaking. Once we arrived at Stellenbosch we were just in time to join the afternoon wine tour, which I think is the culprit of my enthusiastic blog post today. Tasted the most fantastic wines, had lots of giggles and met some great people. Now chilling in the hostel and off out again tonight to experience stellenbosch night life! Wowza, long post but now you're all finally up to date!

CURRENT LOCATION: Banghoek place, Stellenbosch.

NEXT STOP: Once, Cape Town (again!)

Dankie, Doei, Tiger Laylay xo
